East Hampton Teen Remains in Critical Condition
Ejected from vehicle after crashing into tree on Route 66.
An East Hampton teenager seriously injured in a one-car accident Wednesday afternoon on Route 66 in Portland, remains in critical condition as of Friday evening.
Portland Police would not identify the driver, saying Friday that, “We haven’t had a chance to speak with him. He’s in pretty rough shape.”
Patch has learned that Jayson Lanzi, 19, was behind the wheel of his Subaru Impreza when he struck a tree and was ejected from the vehicle. Lanzi, a 2010 graduate of East Hampton High School, was taken by ambulance to Hartford Hospital, which confirmed Friday that his condition is unchanged.
The Middletown Press reported that LifeStar helicopter was unavailable to respond to the accident due to the poor weather.
The Portland Police Department Accident Reconstruction Unit is investigating the crash. Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to call the Portland Police at 860-342-6780.
