CT Kids Respond to Newtown Shooting

60 Children from CT Interviewed About Hopes for Their Future;

Demanding Stricter Gun Laws and Promise to MARCH FOR CHANGE

WESTON, CT— February 1, 2013   March For Change(http://www.marchforchange.org} a bi-partisan, grassroots effort supporting the legislative agenda of Connecticut Against Gun Violence,a Connecticut based non-profit organization dedicated to making Connecticut communities, families, and children safe from gun violence through a common sense approach to public education and legislative advocacy, announced today the release of a robust public service campaign in support of the February 14th MARCH FOR CHANGE in Hartford, CT demanding safer, rational gun laws.  Produced by Johnny Boston, Christine Fulton and Melissa Chesman of Raw Media Network, a production company with offices in New York and Weston, CT, these short films and 30- and 60-second spots give voice to the kids of Connecticut, who are struggling to come to terms with the reality of gun violence in our communities.

“I’m marching on February 14th to demand a better future for my children. I wanted our public service campaign to project the possibility for change and the hope for a safer future.  Everyone involved in the project has school-aged children, all of whom are also trying to make sense of the tragedy in nearby Newtown; these kids are talking amongst themselves and questioning grown ups about gun violence in our country.  We decided to invite 60 kids into the conversation and immediately the PSA took shape,” said Johnny Boston, the campaign’s producer and director.

“We had a limited amount of time to finish the PSA,” said producer Christine Fulton. “Usually when there is an open call, people say they will participate, but there are always a lot of ‘no-shows.’  For this project, not only did everyone show, they brought other people’s kids and invited entire other families, as well; it made for a tighter schedule and longer shoot, but the passion people feel is palpable and the response inspiring.”

Over 60 children from Fairfield County shared their feelings about the tragedy in Newtown and their hopes and dreams for the future.  Originally two 30- and 60-seconds spot were produced, however Raw Media Network realized these wouldn’t be enough o honor the thoughtful voices of the children.  Subsequently, two longer versions of the PSA were also created, including CONNECTICUT KIDS RESPOND, which made its World Premiere at the special screening of “Living for 32” at the Christ & Holy Trinity Church in Westport on January 27th.   Actor Frank Whaley provided the resonant voiceover in the six minute short film.

All of the PSAs can currently be seen on Raw Media Network’s YouTube channel or on their FB page:

1st of all - LOWER income community's " certainly Is not referring to places such as PortlandRead More or East Hampton so I'm confused why the writer implies it does since clearly it doesn't ! the other comment the writer chooses to include is "society lets kids down" referring to not allocating enough $$$ for supplies or education ..... THIS is JUST CRAZY !!!! on a Larger Level the USA throws more $$ at education thinking it will make a difference when it will not - and the results show it... 2ndly - has anyone that agrees with this Assertion actually ever looked at the Budgets these school systems receive ? it's clear that the majority if our tax $ goes to educators and the system - and it's mainly comes down to a few simple things when we talk about why teachers are taking cash outta their own pockets to buy supplies. it has NOTHING to do with not having the $$ it comes down to - the educators and Dept Leads NOT planning correctly. if they had planned correctly and put it in their HUGE inflated budgets they wouldn't have to go buy things .... Also it cones down to the administrators not working with the boards to put a system in place that if for some reason - something is needed - they have an Avenue To obtain it or get reimbursed for it Easily. So we really need To put a stop to continuing to put a slant on these types of stories - and just start stating the facts. the last thing I find VERY strange is that Nowhere the PTA is mentioned and What a great resource they are !!! The majority of the time these groups have plenty of $$$ ON HAND that they actually need to "" THINK of "" year after year what to do with it all...... they are great groups that really add to the overall assistance to the depts within the schools. last year alone for an example is that our PTO purchased over 1200 dollars in tee shirts for the 1st graders to wear at an Assembly as well as Utilizing their funds to purchase a $800 Color laser printer. So let's all take a step back and Realize Yes maybe our teachers are out there purchasing supplies however It is not due to a lack of funds with in the school systems budgets

In North Korea we have the Same old S - - T as we had with his Father and Grandfather. If they wantRead More to destroy their country, Bring it on! He is nothing but a BIG MOUTH. I feel sorry for the N. Korean people to have such a jerk as this dictator. It is too bad they don't have a good democracy.
