Follow-up to Popular Safety Conference to Focus on Mental Health

On Thursday, October 24, CREC will host “School Safety: A Focus on Mental Health,” a follow-up conference to CREC’s popular May event: “School Safety: It’s Everybody’s Business.” This conference will highlight key student mental health issues and feature presentations by a variety of education and mental health experts.

CREC’s mission is for each and every student to receive the highest quality education possible. Ensuring the safety and security of students, teachers, and school faculty is integral to that mission. Following the recent, senseless violence in Newtown, the nation’s attention is focused on our schools. This conference will highlight essential resources and solutions to many of the mental health challenges schools are facing.

Keynoting this important event will be Nelba Marquez-Greene, LMFT. Last December, Nelba and her husband Jimmy Greene lost their precious daughter, Ana Grace in the tragic event at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown. The Marquez-Greene family has partnered with Klingberg Family Centers to develop “The Ana Grace Project.” The goal of The Ana Grace Project is to promote love, community, and connection for every child and family. “Love wins” is a family slogan they adopted after Ana’s senseless murder. Nelba Marquez-Greene also works for Sandy Hook Promise, a non-profit corporation created by members of the community of Newtown with the goals of helping the community heal and advocating for change locally and nationally.
