Over 100 People Explored Cobalt Mine and CCC Camp

This group of children and adults explored one of the cobalt and gold mines on Gadpouch Rd. in Cobalt on Sunday, May 4th. Over 100 adults and children participated in the monthly "Explore East Hampton" program  organized by the Chatham Historical Society (CHS) and sponsored by the East Hampton Parks & Recreation Dept. Anne Klotzbier, CHS member, showed hikers the old  mines & told their history while Al Petell discussed the minerals in the area. Historian Marty Podskoch led another group to the site of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Camp Jenkins and told its history and showed old photos. The next walk will be a tour of the islands on Lake Pocotopaug on Saturday, September 28th at 1 pm.
