Sen. Linares Applauds Portland for Energy Bright Ideas

Sen. Art Linares applauded a ‘Bright Idea’ Grant awarded to Portland Dec. 4 at the State Capitol. Portland was among 35 municipalities in Connecticut that will receive grants through their participation in the statewide Clean Energy Communities program.

“It’s great to see Portland being recognized for its ‘bright ideas’,” Linares said.  “Finding efficiencies through clean energy solutions will help Portland taxpayers and benefit the environment.”

Through community-wide participation in energy-saving and renewable energy programs, including resident and business participation, the community receives points toward rewards, including “Bright Idea Grants.” Under the Clean Energy Communities program, municipalities sign a pledge to reduce municipal building energy consumption by 20 percent by 2018, and to voluntarily purchase 20 percent of its municipal electric needs from renewable sources by 2018.
