Wet Weather Postpones Portland Fireworks Event

A new date for the event will be announced soon, according to the town.

Thanks to recent downpours flooding the banks of the Connecticut River, this weekend’s fireworks event in Portland needs to be postponed, according to the town.

The annual event, held at the Portland Exchange Club fairgrounds, was postponed after town officials and members of the fireworks committee inspected the site on Monday night and determined there was no way to dry out the fields before the event.

Unfortunately for the event, the area from which the town shoots the fireworks is too wet for launch, according to the committee.

It is also too muddy to get public works vehicles into the area to help shape it, officials said.

The new date will be announced once town departments—as well as the fireworks company—can reschedule.

However, the drawing for the raffle will take place Saturday as normal; raffle winners do not need to be present to win, and will be notified by the fireworks committee.
