Community Corner

A Little Christmas Creativity

Uncle's inspiration serves as gift idea for siblings.

Whiz Kids: Sarah Piscatelli, age 15; Nick Piscatelli, 13; and Nathan Piscatelli, 8.

Whiz Kids’ accomplishment:  The Piscatelli siblings know something about giving back to the community because the adults in their family serve as great role models. Their Uncle, Scott Piscatelli, devotes a great deal of his time and money in support of the Norwich and New London Homeless Shelters.

The kids were wondering what to give their Uncle for Christmas, so they came up with the great idea of holding a blanket and clothing drive to help the homeless.  Sarah, Nick and Nathan wrote a very nice letter requesting donations of new and used clothing and blankets and delivered them to their friends and neighbors. They collected over $3,000 worth of new clothing and blankets, as well as lots of used ones, to donate to the shelters. The items were delivered directly to homeless people on the street who don’t go to shelters, and wrapped and given as gifts on Christmas Eve to those staying in the shelters.
