The East Hampton Village Lions are continuing its sponsorship of the “Adopt-A-Senior-Rider” program.
With rising fuel costs and the decrease of state and federal aid, the operational costs to provide Dial-A-Ride bus transportation for senior citizens has increased. Many of these individuals are on a limited income and need financial assistance for transportation. Senior citizens ride the bus to and from the Senior Center to get a hot lunch and socialization. They use the bus to get to doctors’ appointments and other destinations such as pharmacies and grocery stores. Each round trip costs $3, or $15 a week.
Since July of 2003 the East Hampton Village Lions Club has been funding the “Adopt A Senior Rider” program. Funds continue to be needed and contributions are gratefully accepted. Just $15 provides weekly transportation for a needy senior.
As the older adult population grows, there will be an increased need for these transportation funds. Club fundraisers help support this “Adopt-A-Senior-Rider” program, however, the Village Lions Club continues to ask the public for donations to help support this community need.
Individuals who would like to donate should make checks payable to the East Hampton Village Lions Club with a memo to: “Adopt A Senior Rider” and send checks to the East Hampton Village Lions Club at P.O. Box 14, East Hampton, CT 06424. If you have questions about the program. you may contact JoAnn Ewing, East Hampton Senior Center at 860-267-4426.
