East Hampton Naval Corpsman Honors 115 Years of Hospital Corps
Seaman Cory B. Manka, of East Hampton, cut the cake celebrating 115 years of the Navy Hospital Corps on June 19.
As the youngest corpsman at Camp Hansen in Japan, Seaman Cory B. Manka, 20, a platoon corpsman and native of East Hampton was given the task of cutting the cake celebrating the Hospital Corps’ 115th birthday.
The celebration took place at the Camp Hansen bowling center on June 19, the 115th anniversary of the Navy Hospital Corps, according to a military press release.
Manka was joined by fellow Battalion Landing Team 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit member Chief Petty Officer William R. Janic Jr. to cut the commemorative cake. The Hospital Corps’ birthday was commemorated with an appreciation lunch to mark the gratitude from the Marines for the corpsmen’s role in supporting their Marine infantry unit, the release said.
