East Hampton's Town Manager Gets More Control of WPCA

Under new rules adopted this week by the Town Council, Town Manager Michael Maniscalco will get greater oversight of the Water Pollution Control Authority.

The town has approved amendments to its water and sewer agency ordinances that gives the town manager greater control over the department.

The amendments, approved this week by the Town Council, is the result of issues related to the water and sewer department, including a lawsuit involving sewer pump problem on Barton Hill Road, according to a report this week in the Hartford Courant.

The change also is apparently in reaction to state law violations committed by the Water Pollution Control Authority, Town Manager Michael Maniscalco told the council. Those violations, the Courant quotes Maniscalco, were related to rate increases the WPCA approved without first holding public hearings, as required by state law.
