Kenny Fletcher Memorial Ride is Saturday

Proceeds will benefit Soldier On and CHAMP.

The 2nd Annual Kenny Fletcher Memorial Ride will be held on Saturday.

Kenny Fletcher, retired First Sgt. United States Army, served for 22 years and saw tours of duty during the Gulf War in 1991 and in the Iraq War. Kenny passed away in April of 2011 after a valiant battle with cancer. He was a tremendous individual who, for his whole life, put the needs of others ahead of himself.

The ride will start at VFW Post 5095, 20 North Maple St., in East Hampton. All motorcycles and hot rods are welcome to participate. The fee is $25 per bike/car and $10 per passenger. Registration is from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. There will be stops at the VFW Posts in Willimantic, Plainfield, Montville and Norwich. The ride will end at VFW Post 5095 in East Hampton. Come down for a great ride, great food and friends, with live entertainment by KillerWatts. Rain date is Sunday.

All proceeds from this event will benefit Soldier On and CHAMP (Citizens Helping Active Military Personnel) in Kenny's memory. Since 1994, Soldier On has offered a continuum of care for veterans that includes immediate and long-term housing, treatment and recovery for addiction, food, and clothing, as well as medical, counseling and job-related services. CHAMP was formed in May of 2005 by members of the Fowler-Dix-Park Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5095 and its Ladies Auxiliary, Anchor Masonic Lodge 112, and Boy Scout Troop 8. Each month, the group meets and sends care packages to servicemen and servicewomen from East Hampton, Marlborough, Cobalt and Middle Haddam. CHAMP's mission is to send cheer, goodwill and hopefully, a little piece of home to our soldiers during their deployment.
