Letter to the Editor: East Hampton Budget

Supports East Hampton Budget

I am writing this letter in support of the East Hampton budget referendum to be held Tuesday May 3rd.

There is no question that our tough economic times continue, and residents are concerned about already higher prices in gasoline for their cars, oil to heat their homes and food to put on the table. The goal of the members of the Town Council, Board of Finance and Board of Education was to put forth a budget that reflects theses times with a “zero increase” over last year.  And to a great extent this has been accomplished.  The Town government budget is actually LESS than last year, and with only increases in pending fuel cost and health care costs, the Board of Education budget is a mere 1.67% higher.  The only change is that with the recent revaluation, residents that saw their property revaluation increase will see their taxes go up slightly with the mill rate adjustment, but some will see their taxes go down slightly as well.  This budget is prudent and fiscally responsible to our current economic conditions, continues basic Town services and meets the educational responsibilities for the community.  Specific budget information is available on the Town website at www.easthamptonct.org. Vote “YES” on May 3rd.
