Community Corner

Making Every Day Count

Busy schedule doesn't deter East Hampton Sophomore.

Whiz Kid's name: Madison Reinhard

Whiz Kid's accomplishments: Madison, a sophomore at East Hampton High School, is an engaging and well-rounded student that is active throughout the community and an excellent role model for younger kids. Madison is involved in many sports and clubs and is a member of the student government. However, it’s not just her sense of involvement that makes Madison stand out in the crowd – it’s her quest to excel and succeed in her many endeavors.

Madison plays sports almost year round. Madison has started at first base on the varsity softball team since her freshman year and has been instrumental in the team’s success. The team is currently tied for second place in the shoreline conference. On the soccer team, Madison plays in the midfield. And, in indoor track in the winter months, she runs the 55 meter dash, sprint medley and sometimes the 4x200 and 300 meter dash.

Additionally, Madison is committed to giving back to her community. Madison is a member of the Interact Club, a community service-based club. Before Christmas, she and other members of the Interact Club helped create Santa pictures for the children at the Santa’s Breakfast hosted by the Rotary Club. She also helped organize the senior citizen dance at the Senior Center.  Madison has been busy this past school year organizing school-wide events with the student council, where she serves as class treasurer. These events include dances such as Homecoming and Spring Fling, blood drives and a stay-cation. The stay-cation was a brand new event held to offer fun vacation time activities to offset the loss of the April vacation because of the high number of snow days this past winter. The activities included a teacher trivia, flamingo hunts, a tourist day and ice cream sundae day. The ice cream Sundae day helped raise money for the Student Council Scholarship funds.

Madison is proud of her busy schedule because “It gives me time to be with my friends or help with the school. ... I enjoy being involved with my class since I think that is important for everyone.”

And just when you would think she doesn’t have time for anything else, Madison also utilizes a significant portion of her free time babysitting for many children in the community.
