Middletown's Sept. 11 Ceremony Recalls Those Who Made Ultimate Sacrifice

Middletown's Sept. 11 ceremony at South District Fire marked 12 years since the Twin Towers attack with a permanent memorial garden.

The oxidized and twisted steel beam at the center of the city's Sept. 11 memorial garden rose dramatically toward the sky Wednesday as hundreds took in a solemn dedication ceremony at the South District firehouse.

Middletown firefighters and police officers flanked the large steel beam from the North Tower of the World Trade Center — an artifact permanently entrusted to the city to mark the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on New York's Twin Towers.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, Mayor Dan Drew, South Fire Chief Robert Ross and Chair David Galitto joined legislators and veterans in a patriotic, hour-long program.
