Ribbon-Tying Ceremony to be Held Saturday

East Hampton to honor service member recently deployed to Afghanistan.

East Hampton’s Yellow Ribbon Committee will be honoring another local serviceman with a ceremony on Saturday.

The committee will be tying a ribbon for Capt. Jeffrey L. Pugatch at 8:30 a.m. at the Village Center. Everyone is invited to attend.

Pugatch, a 2004 graduate of East Hampton High School, deployed to Afghanistan in April for a one-year tour of duty after having served in Iraq for four months in 2009.

After completing the ROTC program at Providence College in May 2008, Pugatch, the son of Gregory and Susan Pugatch, was commissioned into the Army as a second lieutenant. He later was assigned to an armor unit with the 1st Cavalry in Fairbanks, Alaska, in 2009.

The first ribbon-tying ceremony was held on May 31, with ribbons for four service members being tied to the tree at the main intersection in the Village Center. As the service members return home, another ceremony is held to welcome them back and to say thank you.
