What Happened to Back to School Clothes Shopping?

Kids are now waiting until school starts to see what other students are wearing before buying their own clothes. What happened to individualism?

Not sure about you, but when I was a child we began our school clothes shopping on August 1st, and by the first day of school we were all ready to wear our fall clothes (yes we were hot, but we looked good). In my opinion the purchasing of new school clothes was a lead into a "New Beginning, a fresh start."

It is both the parents and the teenagers deciding to hold off on the new clothes. The parents of the younger children hold off knowing that the child will wear their existing summer attire to school for the first few weeks, which is great. But, in my opinion, that takes the excitement out of starting school and recognizing the "fresh new start."

The above does not bother me nearly as much as the teenagers holding off on new clothing.

Today's trend is to start school and then shop. Why? They are afraid of not having the best trendy clothes like everyone else. What happened to individualism?

Read what the NY Times has to say about this.

Before you hold off on providing your child the fresh start consider the following:

For younger children, opt to purchase a few shorts and short sleeve shirts, along with their new undergarments to give them the "fresh start feeling."

And as for the teenagers, well, talk to them about individualism, have them try on things and opt to purchase what they like and what feels good on them, rather than waiting and wanting what "everyone" else has.

In the next few blogs I will go over some great trends for late summer, early fall, including utilzing those summer items in your fall wardrobe.

Remember your fashion should be individualized, and starting school or a new job should be celebrated with some new clothing items to celebrate the "New Beginning."
