Carpino to Kick Off "Guts & Glory" Adventure Race
Event to be held Saturday in Portland.
Athletes, brave couch potatoes and everyone in between will get their cue from State Rep. Christie Carpino to run toward an obstacle course challenge that benefits Special Olympics Connecticut.
Carpino, a longtime volunteer for Special Olympics, was selected to kick-off the first annual Brownstone Park Guts & Glory Quarry Challenge on Saturday at Brownstone Exploration & Discovery Park, 290 Brownstone Ave., in Portland.
First responders from communities throughout the state will compete alongside the public to raise money for Special Olympics Connecticut, which strives to provide year-round sports training and athletic competitions for children and adults with physical and intellectual disabilities.

The course blends brawn and brain with challenges such as cliff and mudslide climbs and a tunnel crawl.
“The half hour or so of blood, sweat and tears these folks have paid to shed will help fuel the amazing, life-changing opportunities provided by Special Olympics,” said Carpino, who worked with police and correction officers earlier this year in organizing a the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run. “It will be a honor to send the competitors on their way, and I wish everyone good luck.”
