Daily Five: Portland Library Hosts a Trip Down Memory Lane

  1. Author and Vernon resident G. Elmer Munson will read from and sign copies of his book “Stripped,” at Books & Boos, 514 Westchester Road, Colchester, on Saturday, March 9, from 2 - 4 pm.
  2. There’s been a recall on two brands of Bumble Bee tuna.
  3. The East Hampton Knights of Columbus are hosting Friday Night Fish Fries every Friday night through Lent.  The dinners are held at 4:30 p.m. in the St. Patrick Church Community Center on North Maple St. The cost of the meals is: $9 for shrimp, $8 for clam strips, $7.50 for fish and $3 for kids meals, $3. Take out available.           
  4. The Oneida Holistic Health Center in Marlborough will host a program on the dangers of modern-day marijuana on March 23, from 1-2 p.m. The program is free and intended to inform parents on the changing world of marijuana.
  5. The Portland Public Library in conjunction with the Connecticut Historical Society, will host the program “From Hula Hoops to High Fashion: G. Fox in the 1950s,” on Saturday March 23, at 11 a.m. Elizabeth Abbe, director of public outreach at CHS, will lead you down memory lane with a look at Connecticut’s favorite department store. She will take you back, floor by floor, to the days when G. Fox was the largest privately-owned department store in the U.S.
