Daily Five: The Chatham Historical Society Hosts an Antiques Appraisal Day This Weekend

Also, the Portland Library is offering a program that looks at the history of the G. Fox company in Hartford.

 

  1. The Portland Parks & Recreation Department will host a “Parents’ Night Out,” buffet dinner, cash bar, dancing and silent auction on Saturday, April 6, from 6:30 to 11 p.m., at the Portland Golf Course Barn, 169 Bartlett St. Ticket are $40 per person and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The event is limited to 150 people age 21 and older.
  2. The Connecticut BBB offers tax-time tips on how to avoid swindlers.
  3. The Chatham Historical Society will sponsor its 18th annual Antique Appraisal Day on Saturday, March 23, from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. in the Community Room at the East Hampton Library, 105 Main St., East Hampton. Four expert appraisers will give verbal appraisals on furniture, glassware, lamps, china, teddy bears, dolls, quilts, artwork and other treasures brought in, for a suggested donation of $5 per item.
  4. The Higher Grounds Coffee Shop in East Hampton will host a “Guided Meditation” event tonight, at 5:30, at the coffee shop at 70 Main St.
  5. The Portland Public Library, in conjunction with the Connecticut Historical Society, will host the program “From Hula Hoops to High Fashion: G. Fox in the 1950s,” on Saturday, March 23, from 11 a.m. to noon.
