East Hampton High School Renovation Project Gets Facebook Page

Backers of the proposal are hoping social media will help keep residents informed of the progress of the renovation proposal.

The political action committee formed to advocate for passage of the East Hampton High School renovation project has created a Facebook page devoted to information on it.

The EHHS Renovate to Educate PAC, which formed in January to lobby in support of the proposed high school rebuilding plan, recently created the Facebook group in order to better inform the public about the proposed $52 million high school renovation project.

The page has 527 members so far and numerous postings about meetings and other issues related to the project.

Thom Cordeiro, who started the PAC and the Facebook page, said Monday he hopes the page will help keep people up-to-date with the latest information on the project and get the word out about the importance of the renovations plan.

The high school building committee’s current plan is for a $52 million “renovate as new” project that the committee hopes will go to voters in a referendum by the end of April. The committee is facing a June 30 deadline to submit the proposal to the state for reimbursement of about 52.5 percent of the project’s costs.

On Wednesday, the Board of Finance will review the proposal and could vote on the plan. The finance board’s action on the high school renovation project is required in order for it to move forward.

The board was originally scheduled to discuss the high school renovation plan on Monday, but rescheduled the discussion in order to focus its attention Monday on the budget plan for next year.
