East Hampton Ties Another Ribbon

Ceremony held for Capt. Pugatch.

A little rain couldn't dampen the spirit and patriotism Saturday morning as East Hampton honored another of its own with a yellow ribbon.

The honoree was Capt. Jeffrey L. Pugatch, a 2004 graduate of East Hampton High School. Pugatch, a 2004 graduate of East Hampton High School, deployed to Afghanistan in April.

On Saturday, the East Hampton Yellow Ribbon Committee had his parents, Gregory and Susan Pugatch, put a ribbon with their son's name on it on the tree at the main intersection in the Village center, joining others from town currently serving overseas.

Capt. Pugatch completed the ROTC program at Providence College in May 2008. He was commissioned into the Army as a second lieutenant and later was assigned to an armor unit with the 1st Cavalry in Fairbanks, Alaska, in 2009.

The program was the idea of Ann McLaughlin, who was on hand for the ribbin tying, as was the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and town councilman Chris Goff.
