Land Swap Opponents Plan Meeting

The grassroots group Citizens for Protection of Public Land turns its attention to the zoning process for the Tylerville land.

The group fighting the Haddam land swap is hosting a meeting today at 7 p.m., at the Youth Center/Old Fire House at 7 Candlewood Hill Road in Higganum Center to discuss the status of the project.

Leaders of the Citizens for Protection of Public Land will give an update on any actions the Haddam Planning and Zoning Commission is planning on the project.

“If you have friends or neighbors who would like to help us, please let them know,” the group said in an email invitation for the meeting. “We will have a fact sheet, petition, and signup card for you to take or email to your friends, neighbors and others you think might be interested. Let us know if you can make it to our meeting and feel free to suggest any ideas you may have. If you are unable to attend, but want to help us reach out or just want to stay informed, please let us know and we will get back to you with a packet of information and things you can do to help.”

Despite the state’s decision to give a local developer a more than 17-acre parcel overlooking the Connecticut River in Tylerville in exchange for 87 acres the developer owns in Higganum, Citizens for Protection of Public Land is continuing its efforts to stop the Tylerville land from being developed.

The developer has not yet filed plans for the Tylerville property, but the preliminary proposal calls for a boutique hotel with associated retail development.
