Limited Services at DMV Saturday

New drivers licenses, ID cards won't be issued

A contractor's upgrade of a computer system will prevent the Department of Motor Vehicles on Saturday from issuing new driver licenses, new or renewed commercial driver licenses, new state identification cards and new learners' permits.

Renewals of driver licenses can be processed at DMV offices as well as AAA offices statewide.

DMV offices, which are open Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., will be processing other customer transactions such as registration services and duplicate licenses or duplicate identification cards. Anyone with a scheduled driver's test should keep that appointment. Normal services are expected to resume on Tuesday when DMV offices re-open for business. DMV offices are closed every Monday for customer transactions.

The problem results from a Saturday upgrade by the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators, which provides services necessary for various checks done on driving records held by other states. DMV had requested that the upgrade occur on days when Connecticut DMV offices are closed, but this upgrade proceeded for Saturday.
