Machimoodus State Park Offers an Outdoors Escape
Newer state park offers fishing, trails, horseback riding and more.
Each week, we’ll tell you about one great idea to give you a much deserved break, and make your life a little easier, maybe a whole lot easier.
Now that the weather should be warming up, a great place to quickly escape to is Machimoodus State Park. Located on Leesville Road in Moodus, Machimoodus consists of the old Sunrise Resort and Echo Farm land. This is one of the newer state parks, opened in 2007 by the state Department of Envirionmental Protection. The park has trails for hiking, bird watching, horseback riding, dog walking and three ponds in which you can fish. Trails overlook the Moodus and Salmon Rivers, and picnic tables are sprinkled throughout.
