Matt Bevin, owner of the Bevin Brothers Bell Factory in East Hampton is mulling a primary against U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell, a Kentucky Republican.
Bevin, 46, lives in Louisville, Ky., but operates his family's more than 170-year-old bell factory here in East Hampton.
According to the website Dailycaller.com , Bevin, "a prominent philanthropist and Louisville resident since the late 1990s," is considering a primary run against McConnell on the Tea Party ticket and could help the party moderate its battered image.
Bevin made headlines across the state last year and rubbed elbows with prominent political figures in Connecticut after his family's bell factory downtown burned to the ground in a spectacular blaze that drew firefighters from dozens of local departments.
