is the latest setting for the filming of the Cuba Gooding Jr., movie “Something Whispered.”
Local officials say the production company for the movie has been filming at Johnsonville for the last couple of weeks and are expected to wrap up work there in the first week of November. The movie, about a family seeking to flee slavery in the 1850s, has been filming at other Connecticut sites this summer and fall.
East Haddam Patch recently visited Johnsonville to try and find some of the movie crew but the village was empty. The only recent signs of life were a fresh coat of paint on one of the churches and a pair of Port-a-Potties set up next to one of the old buildings.
Johnsonville, a recreated 19th century village, is owned by a Florida-based investment and real estate firm that had sought a multi-use development on the 64-acre site but it was undone by local zoning snags. The village has sat unused since the early 1990s.
This isn’t the first time, however, that it’s been the locale for a film crew. In 1993 Billy Joel filmed his “River of Dreams” music video on the site.
