Now East Hampton can Shine A Light

Candles to support Bevin Bell now available.

Sue Berescik, the director of the East Hampton Public Library, has delivered on an idea.

Shine a Light, an LED light that comes with a transparent logo, is now available for sale. The light, which comes in a small glass jar, runs on batteries that come with it and ideally would go in a window is a way for residents to show their support for Bevin Bell.

The factory and another company, PSI Plus, were destroyed by a fire during the early morning hours of May 27.

"Lighting the candle is an easy way for you to show your visible and vibrant support for Bevin Bell's rebuilding efforts and the company's commitment to keep the bells in Belltown," Berescik wrote on the East Hampton Library blog. "For greatest effect, work with your neighbors to "shine the light" up and down your street!"

The candles are available at the library and the parks and recreation office for $7.

Berescik spoke of her idea at the June 5 town council meeting, saying “This is a small idea I think the library is going to tackle.”

It did just that.
