PHOTOS: A Look Back at Tropical Storm Irene, One Year Later

On the first anniversary when the storm made landfall in Connecticut, we look back at some of the photos capturing the devastation.

On Aug. 28, 2011, Hurricane Irene made landfall in Connecticut, but quickly downgraded to a tropical storm.

Despite the categorical change, however, the storm caused widespread damage across several areas in the state, and was responsible for the deaths of Connecticut residents.

Citizens and town governments worked together to clean up the mess, and within a few weeks roads were completely cleared and the power was back on for the over 700,000 customers who lost it.
