To register or to obtain additional information for any Parks & Recreation programs, please call 860-342-6757, or you may go online to www.portlandct.org, click on Departments, then to Parks & Recreation. The individual registration forms will be listed as a link on the web page. Forms can be printed, completed and returned back to the Parks & Recreation office. Registration Forms must be completed for each program prior to the program start date. The Parks & Recreation Hotline is 860-262-7234.  This number is for closures and cancellations or updates.

The Parks & Recreation Summer Playground Information and Summer Sport Camps are all available at the Parks & Recreation Office or at www.portlandct.org.

Family Fun

Portland Parks & Recreation Department and The Brownstone Quorum present “T-Bone American’s Musical Pied Piper.” Fun for the whole family, Friday, June 3, 6 p.m., at Riverfront Park. Join us for this free show with T-Bone providing the whole family with singing, dancing, music and laughter! Bring a picnic dinner and enjoy the beauty of our new Riverfront Park. Pre-show hike to Overlook area from 5 to 6 p.m. The park is located on Brownstone Avenue. Questions, please call the Parks & Recreation office at 860-342-6757. Playground Plus

Playground Plus is an all-day camp for youth who have completed grades K to 6 (Portland residents only). The program meets at the Brownstone Intermediate School and Noyes Jr. Camp on Penfield Hill Road. Activities include arts & crafts, special events, outside games, nature activities, organized sports and much more! The ratio of staff to campers is 1:10. Maximum enrollment is 40. The program meets Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and runs from June 27 to Aug.19.

Pre-registration is a must. The fee is $170 per week and $160 for each additional sibling. Swimming lessons through the Northern Middlesex YMCA are also available at an extra fee with transportation included.

Summer Playgrounds at Gildersleeve

This program is for youth who have completed grades K – 6 (Portland residents only).  Activities include field trips, special events, social time, outside games, sports activities, arts and crafts and free time. This year we are also going to have a mini-teen program for campers that have completed grades 5 and 6! The ratio of staff to campers is 1:10. This program meets Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Gildersleeve School and runs from June 27 to Aug. 5. You must pre-register. The fee is $110 per week and $100 for each additional sibling. Swimming lessons through the Northern Middlesex YMCA are also available at an extra fee with transportation included.

Half-Day Program At Gildersleeve

This year a new half-day program at Gildersleeve is being offered. The sessions are 8 to 11:30 a.m. or 11:30 to 3 p.m. Activities included are as listed under Summer Playgrounds at Gildersleeve. The fee for the half-day session is $65 per week. 

USTA summer Jr. Tennis Program

This program will provide training and league/tournament play necessary to take junior players to the next level of competition. Team will play matches against teams from other towns. There will be two teams:18 and under team (high school) and 14 and under team (grades 6,7,8). The instructor is USTA certified coach Miguel Garcia. Tennis will be held at the Portland High School courts, Thursdays from 6 to 8 p.m. (practices) from June 16 to Aug. 4. The fee is $50 which includes USTA membership and T-shirt. 

Zumba

Zumba fitness uses Latin rhythms and easy to follow moves to create a dynamic fitness program that will change the way you look at fitness! Zumba is exhilarating, caloric-burning, body-energizing and most of all, fun!  Class is held on Wednesdays, 6 to 7 p.m. at Portland Senior Center from June 15 to Aug.17. The fee is $80 for residents and $90 non-residents, or if you are unable to make all the classes there is a special of $40/$45 for five classes. Your instructor is Brian LaRoe.

The Portland Parks Walking Club: Walking the Parks

The Portland Parks and Recreation Department is starting a walking club for eight Tuesdays this spring at 4:30 p.m. It a great way to get to know the Town of Portland Parks, meet some new people, and get some exercise. Please call the Parks and Recreation Office if you are interested in joining. The walks will be between 2 to 3 miles. Everyone can walk at there own pace. Each week we will start from a different location in town. Site: Buck Foreman Community Center.

Baseball Trips

The Parks & Recreation Office is offering the following baseball trips through Dattco bus Company to Yankee Stadium and Fenway Park. Departure from Portland will be at the Brownstone Intermediate School, 314 Main St., and the bus will depart ½ hour after the game ends.

Yankees vs. Mets, Sunday, May 22, at Yankee Stadium. Tickets are Section 233/234B for a 1:05 p.m. game. The cost is $140. Depart  at 8:30 a.m.

Red Sox vs. Baltimore, Sunday, July 10, at Fenway Park. Tickets are Section Right Field Grandstand, Section 7 for a 1:35 p.m. game. The cost is $96. Depart at 8:30 a.m.

Red Sox vs. Tampa Bay, Saturday, Sept. 17, at Fenway Park for a 7:10 p.m. game.

Tickets are Section Right Field Box 89. The cost is $111. Depart at 2:15 p.m.
