Possibility of Heavy Rain Sunday Into Monday Night

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook, saying there is a small chance of flash flooding Sunday into Monday.

 

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for Sunday into Monday, saying there is the potential for around two to three inches of rainfall across the tri-state area during that time.

"While urban and poor drainage flooding will be the main threat, there is a small chance of flash flooding," the NWS said.

The National Weather Service Hydrometeorological Prediction Center said that "after an extended stretch of dry weather over the eastern third of the country, a widespread rainfall event is becoming likely from Florida to New England as a cold front interacts with a moisture-rich air mass from the Gulf of Mexico."

The heaviest rain is forecast for the deep south and Florida, and there could be snow in parts of Canada, but it looks like the East Hampton and Portland area might finally get its share of rain. As long as it's not too heavy, that could be welcome relief to an area that has had multiple Red Flag warnings recently due to dry weather that has contributed to .

The forecast:

Saturday: A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 2 p.m. Patchy fog before 8 a.m. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 69. South wind between 3 and 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.

Saturday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Cloudy, with a low around 47. North wind between 7 and 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent.

Sunday: Rain likely. Cloudy, with a high near 60. Northeast wind between 7 and 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Sunday Night: Rain. Low around 43. Breezy. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Monday: Rain likely. Cloudy, with a high near 56. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent.

Monday Night: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 41. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.

Tuesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 54.
