Schools Closed in East Hampton Monday

The roads are still not passable enough for school buses.

The town made significant progress Sunday clearing the roads of snow but education officials are canceling school for Monday because of concerns about bus travel.

Town Manager Michael Maniscalco said Sunday that only a handful of roads in town were still snowed in. But while most of the town's roads are now passable, they are still not clear enough to safely permit school buses to traverse them, he said.

"We're just concerned about bringing buses down them," he added.

By 2 p.m. only about 20 roads in town were still not cleared and Mansicalco, interviewed at about 5:30 p.m., on Sunday, said road crews would continue to work around the clock until all of the roads were cleared. He said just a handful of roads still needed to be plowed.

"We will continue to work 24-7 until we get them all open," he said.
