Here are five things you might want to know today.

  1. The Oneida Holistic Health Center in Marlborough will host a Meditation Group by Life Coach Torin Lee today from 6-7 p.m. Learn the benefits and techniques of meditation and go home feeling relaxed. This group meets each Tuesday. No reservation is required but please be prompt. The fee is $5.
  2. The boyfriend of Jini Barnum, the East Hampton woman who went missing last year and whose body was later found in a shallow grave in Glastonbury, was arrested Monday on a murder charge.
  3. The East Hampton Public Library is participating in “Take Your Child to the Library Day,” with daylong events for kids and families on Feb. 2, including a story, a bookmark design contest, a trivia contest and a scavenger hunt.
  4. State Sen. Art Linares is taking part in the hearings on gun control before the state legislature. Linares was recently appointed to take part in one of the subcommittees on a special task force that was named to look into gun control issues following the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings in Newtown.
  5. Did you know that the Portland Library has a used bookstore? Located next to the Mary Flood room, the Second Hand Prose Book Shop has mysteries, general fiction, non-fiction, romance, young adult and children’s used books, as well as used DVDs and videos. Many items are like new and new items arrive each week.
