The Daily Five: Free Tax Help at the Portland Senior Center

Five things you should know today.

  1. The Portland Senior Center is offering free tax help for preparing tax returns. AARP volunteers will help prepare returns so call the center to sign up soon as they have a limited number of slots available. Returns will be prepared on Wednesday mornings from Feb. 6 through March 27.
  2. Having a Superbowl Sunday party? The East Hampton Public Library has some tips on how to throw the perfect pizza party.
  3. A Portland optician who owns Meeting House Opticians in Middletown has been arrested again, this time for practicing illegally.
  4. The East Hampton Food Bank is currently looking for the following food donations: canned soup (they really need this!), jelly, coffee, tea, canned mixed vegetables, corn or peas, boxed mac & cheese, toothpaste, dish soap, canned fruit, peanut butter, cereal, tuna, baking stuff, pasta, sauce and pet food.
  5. Vinnie's Jump and Jive, at 424 Main St in Middletown, will host a 2nd Friday Blues Dance on Friday, Feb. 8., from 7-8 p.m. This class will focus on the lesser-used parts of a dancer's body (head, shoulders, knees and toes) to demonstrate the sharper aspects of Blues music.
