The Daily Five: Thanking Lake Pocotopaug

  1. Maple and Main Gallery in Chester will host an exhibit of 30 area artists in its “Spring Awakenings” exhibit, which kicks Friday, March 22, from 5-8 p.m. The regular hours for the exhibit will be Wed-Sat., 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays.  This exhibit runs through May 12, 2013.
  2. The Modern Observer Group in Middletown will host a course for beginners in social media at 1 p.m. on Wednesdays on during April and on May 1 and 8. Sessions are recorded for later viewing and the course costs $99.
  3. Today’s tax tip: How to claim your Social Security benefits on your returns.
  4. Tommy’s Restaurant & Pizza is participating in the Dining Out For Life program next month. Join them on Thursday, April 25, to benefit HIV/AIDS programs and services. Up to 25 percent of your dining check will be donated to help Connecticut residents living with HIV/AIDS.
  5. This year marks the 6th Annual Thank The Lake Day. The community event will be held Saturday, May 18, at 1 p.m. at Sears Park, at 68 North Main St. The Thank The Lake Day gives thanks to the water of Lake Pocotopaug, the state’s largest natural body of water. This year Joseph Firecrow will attend and will provide traditional Cheyene flute and drum music.
