Portland Restaurant to host 4th Annual Chowder Fest/Ice Carving Contest benefiting food bank
PORTLAND – Joe Lastrina, the owner of Portland Restaurant, will host his 4th Annual Chowder Fest/Ice Carving Contest Sunday, Feb. 10 from 12 to 5 p.m.
The family-oriented event, which benefits the Portland Food Bank, features a competition between ice carvers organized by world-renowned and award-winning ice sculptor Bill Covitz of Cheshire, owner of Ice Matters™.
The theme of the ice carving, chosen by Lastrina’s customers, will be the new movie “Oz: The Great and Powerful,” a prequel to “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.”

On Feb. 10, patrons will pay to participate in voting for the best ice carving and to taste the different varieties of chowder Lastrina will serve, with proceeds going to the charity.
More than 4,000 pounds of ice will be brought to the restaurant parking lot for carving the ice sculptures. The event will go on rain, snow or shine.
