Ride for Scholarship to Remember Friends of Lake Pocotopaug Founder

The 5th Annual "Capt. Grizzy Scholarship Poker Run" in remembrance of East Hampton's Dennis Griswold will take place on June 1.

It's time once more to ride for fun, scholarship and remembrance of a man who friends say was dedicated to improving Lake Pocotopaug.

The Friends of Lake Pocotopaug are assisting the 5th Annual "Capt. Grizzy Scholarship Poker Run" for bikes and hot rods in remembrance of Dennis Griswold on June 1.

Griswold was one of the founders of the Friends of Lake Pocotopaug, a volunteer organization dedicated to improving the lake's water quality.  He operated the Happiest Paddler Marina on Lake Poctopaug, but passed away on Aug. 27, 2008.

In remembrance of Griswold, a scholarship is awarded annually to a deserving East Hampton student pursuing a higher education in environmental science.

This year's ride will begin at Loco Perro, 191 East High St., East Hampton, with stops at The Recovery Room, 445 Ocean Ave., New London, The Lyme Tavern, 229 West Main St., Niantic, and Hilltop BBQ, 12 Palmer Road, Moodus.  The ride will conclude at Angelico's Lake House, 81 North Main St., East Hampton.

There will be a free buffet for all riders at Angelico's, and prizes will be given for the Best Hand and Worst Hand. Music will be provided by "Head First."

Registration begins at 10:30 a.m., and is $20 for riders and $20 for passengers.  All proceeds will be donated to the "Dennis Griswold Scholarship Fund."
