In a Monsoon It's East Hampton 4-0

East Hampton wins 4-0 in Downpour.

I am not sure who makes the decision regarding postponement at Westbrook High School but someone clearly missed the mark allowing the friday afternoon game between East Hampton and Westbrook to commence in a torrential down pour. It did not help Westbrook as they would "weather" the storm but lose 4-0. They were a game side in horrific weather but the scoring began early with Connor Wall notching the first tally at about the 8 min. mark. Cody Mallory would score the next goal to make it 2-0. To add insult to injury Westbrook would add an own goal before the half to make it 3-0. Paul Phelps would score for the Bellringers in the second half to end the game at 4-0.

Credit East Hampton coach Boscarino for giving playing time to his younger players very early in the second half. Westbrook was a game opponent but clearly out played in horrible conditions.

Common sense is not all that common in the world of sports but the powers that be clearly missed the boat on this one. You might want to re-think your decision to play if it is raining so hard you cannot see the players. If a high school player had made this decision he would have suffered severe penalties. Referies can also call the game if it is unsafe to play. It was. We are adults, we are supposed to know better. The nay sayers will add "we are damned if we do and damned if we don't". While that may be true it is imperative at the High School level to place safety as paramount. Credit an amazing Park and Rec. department in Westbook for having a top notch pitch.
