Five Things: Road Work Scheduled in East Hampton

Weather: Severe storms did move into the western part of the state Thursday evening but never quite made it to Portland and East Hampton. There remains a chance for a thunderstorm over the next couple of days. As for today, mostly cloudy, warm and humid, according to wfsb.com, with a chance for showers and thunderstorms. The high temp could reach 89.

Senior Center trips: The Portland Senior Center is offering a bus trip to Mohegan Sun Casino on Wednesday, Aug. 1, departing the Center at 9:30 a.m. You will receive a $30 gaming package which includes a $15 voucher toward the buffet or another Casino restaurant along with a $15 Free Spin on the Wheel. The cost is $20 payable upon signing up. ... The senior van is scheduled for shopping trips to Cromwell on Friday, Aug. 3 and 17, departing the Center at 9:30. Please call the Center at 860-342-6760 to sign up. The transportation fee is $3. ... For those registered for the Aug. 9 Hudson trip – the departure will be 7:30 a.m. from the Senior Center.

Take me out to the Rock Cats game: Zion Lutheran Church invites you to join them in attending Faith and Family Day at New Britain Stadium on Sunday, Aug. 12. The Rock Cats baseball team will take on the Reading Phillies at 1:35 p.m. There will be special entertainment throughout the day and all kids get to run the bases after the game. Mark your calendar and plan to spend an enjoyable afternoon cheering for the Rock Cats! Car pooling from Zion, 183 Williams St., will be available.
