Weather: Partly sunny, very warm and a bit more humid, according to wfsb.com, with a slight chance for an afternoon thunderstorm. The high is expected to be around 89.

Number 35: You might already be wondering, "Just when will Old Home Days be held next year?" The answer is July 11, 12 and 13. So, mark your calendar, don't plan a vacation that week and count on having a great time. And in case you didn't know or forgot, it will be the 35th anniversary ... and the committee has already started planning!

Senior van will take you shopping: The Portland Senior Center van is scheduled for a shopping trip to Cromwell on Friday, Aug. 17. The van will depart the Center at 9:30 a.m. Please call the Center at 860-342-6760 to sign up. The transportation fee is $3.

Race Day is near: Portland’s 2012 “Come On Over” 5K Road Race will be held Friday, rain or shine, starting and finishing at the Town Hall. Race time is 6:30 p.m. (registration begins at 5 p.m.) or you may pre-register now.  Prizes awarded to the top three finishers in each age category. Entry fee is $20 per runner; $10 for any Portland resident 19 and younger and $10 for walkers division. The course is 2.1 miles. To register, call parks and recreation at 860-342-6757.

Fair days are coming: The Haddam Neck Fair will be held Friday through Monday, Aug. 31 to Sept. 3 at the Haddam Neck fairgrounds. Rides, concessions, petting zoo, food, exhibits, displays, ride bracelets at specific times, circus, children's contests and more all four days. Admission is $7; $6 for seniors; children younger than 12, free. Free parking.

I'm not real sure what the take away is. It may be me, but I haven't seen a lot of in-depthRead More reporting on either side of the issue. It appears that we will vote and the result will determine what our future holds. I am willing to read whatever is available to become an informed voter. Please advise where the truth in reporting is and where the public information can be accessed.
