Toy recall: The Department of Consumer Protection is advising consumers about a toy recall from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Toys "R" Us. About 24,000 “Imaginarium 5-Sided Activity Centers” are being recalled because small wooden knobs attaching the xylophone keys to the end can detach, causing a choking hazard to young children. Consumers should stop using the toy and return it to a Toys "R" Us store for a refund or store credit. While Toys "R" Us has received eight reports of the knobs detaching, injuries have yet been reported to the company.
Get your donut: Friday is the 75th annual National Donut Day. The "holiday" is always celebrated on the first Friday in June. A number of donut retailers are offering free deals. Locally, Dunkin Donuts is offering a free donut with any beverage purchase.

Trip to Bronx Zoo: Start summer vacation off with a fun-filled family outing to the Bronx Zoo. The Portland Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring the trip, which includes motorcoach transportation and general admission into the park. The bus will depart from Brownstone Intermediate School at 8 a.m. Cost: $46 for adults ages 13 to 64; Seniors 65 and older, $44; ages 3 to 12, $42, and children 2 and younger, $30. Anyone under age 17 must be accompanied by an adult.
Garden tour: Garden hop ’til you drop when the third annual Connecticut Horticultural Society Garden Tour begins Saturday, June 2, in Portland. Gain inspiration from viewing eight gardens, including a rock garden, a hillside garden with a cascading waterfall, a garden graced with extraordinary stonework, an organic lawn grazed by sheep, and more. A $20 ticket admits the holder to the six private and two public gardens and provides access to a 10 percent plant discount offered by three Portland nurseries.
