Seeking empty bottles, cans and ink cartridges: Girl Scout Troop 2237 will hold its monthly can/bottle drive on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the Trinity Church at 345 Main St. in Portland. The troop is conducting monthly can/bottle drives the second Saturday of every month until November. The girls will accept all returnable cans and bottles. The troop is also collecting empty ink cartridges. The cartridges will be recycled and the money earned will be used to purchase supplies for their troop. If you are unable to drop them off please email gsleader2237@juno.com or call 860-982-5416 to arrange for a pick-up time. The monthly drives help support troop activities and community service projects.

Will there be another? Affirmed is the last horse to win the Triple Crown, accomplishing the feat in 1978. Since then, 11 horses have tried to win the Belmont Stakes after winning the Kentucky Derby and Preakness but failed. A 12th horse will give it a shot on Saturday. I’ll Have Another is the 3-5 favorite in a field of 12 to do what only 11 horses have done before him, win all three legs of the Triple Crown. His shot at history begins Saturday at 4:30 p.m. on NBC with coverage of the 114th Belmont Stakes. Post time is 6:30 p.m.
