Letter to the Editor: In Support of Melissa Ziobron and Melissa Schlag

Vote SMART, vote for the candidates you feel would help our country and state go in the right direction.

Dear Editor,

I am writing this letter in support of two local candidates for the CT State Legislature - Melissa Ziobron (R) for State Representative of the 34th District (East Hamptom, East Haddam and part of Colchester) and Melissa Schlag (GP) for State Senate 33rd District (Chester, Clinton, Colchester, Deep River, East Haddam, East Hampton, Essex, Haddam, Lyme, a portion of Old Saybrook, Portland, and Westbrook).  Both these candidates have, in my view, made an effort to reach out to the residents of their respective districts, and promised to represent OUR interests in the legislature, NOT the interests of the party flag they are running under.  This represents a TRUE government OF the people, BY the people and FOR the people.

Ms Ziobron has promised to support the residents and businesses of her district from the excessive tax burdens that stifle the success and growth of our economy, while still allowing the government to protect the rights of individuals and small business owners.  THIS is a position that many politicians are afraid to take, since it would go against the hand that feeds them (large corporations) and the political parties (which have gotten too big for their own good and refuse to give up any of that power to the common person).  Ms Schlag decided to run to give the residents of our district a VOICE in the State Legislature after the state decided to swap waterfront land in Haddam (on the CT River) with land that could not be developed in the rocky woods next to a state forest.  Many complaints from local residents went unheard and unacknowledged by the representatives who WE elected to look after our best interests on a topic that was, to many people, detrimental to the residents of the district.

I am also writing this letter to urge voters to take a good look at the candidates and their views in this election year.  Many of us will be voting for people who will control the direction our nation and state go for the next two to six years.  Vote SMART, vote for the candidates you feel would help our country and state go in the right direction.  Don’t be like the person who put up signs in their yard for all the Democratic Candidates and forgot to take out the sign saying, “Re-Elect LINDA ORANGE, Democrat.”  She’s NOT running again this year, and is no longer even REPRESENTING the district I saw the sign in!

Vote PEOPLE OVER PARTY!  Not Party over People...

Sincerely yours,

David Cassenti

Is it true what I heard, that Goff is on a disability retirement from the state? If so, how is he going to be able to do any work for the district in Hartford?

Asking this of all candidates. Will you audit CBIA and Ct Innovations? Will you cut Corporate Welfare? Will you remove the taxes Malloy added to our already over taxed state? Do you know that when the tolls were removed Ct raised the tax on fuel to compensate for that loss in revenue and do you understand that adding tolls now would be double taxation? We gave UTC 70% of our ARRA money, 124 million of 169 million, yet they only employ less than 1% of all Ct workers and are still laying off, does that seem fair? Don't you think the money could have been used for something else? It could have replaced every heating system in every school in Ct with hi eff units cutting those bills in half and saving every town and city over 3 figures a year and had 60 million left over to do the same for residences. How do you people justify these corporate hand outs? We gave Pfizer hundreds of millions for the buildings in New London that they walked away from, now we are paying to help move EB in. Shouldn't there have been a provision so that the property reverted back to the people? Shouldn't Pfizer be back billed for that money? Where is Ct taxpayers ROI in all of this?
