The death of Family Feud host Richard Dawson over the weekend got us wondering - what was your favorite game show? Take our poll and add your thoughts in the comments.
Richard Dawson, the iconic host of TV game show Family Feud - whose trademark became his enthusiastic kissing of all female contestants - died Saturday at the age of 79.
His passing started a conversation about the best game shows ever - from the still-going Jeopardy and The Price Is Right to the still-missed Password and What's My Line? (TV Guide's 50 Greatest are here.)
What do you think? What was your favorite game show? Take our poll and add your thoughts in the comments.
I watch the re-runs of Family Feud, but prefer the ones where Richard Dawson was not the host. I apologize for speaking ill of the dead, but his constant slurpy kissiness totally turned me off. Sorry Mr. Dawson, but RIP.
I have to go with Jeopardy but was surprised to see how few others did in the poll. Seems it just must be too much of a challenge for some so they don't like it. Some would rather rely on luck than on actual knowledge.
Thinking back, I am also surprised not to see some of the other oldies listed as a choice. "I've Got a Secret" and "What's My Line" are two that come to mind that I enjoyed many years ago. But I doubt a lot of readers remember those shows.
I enjoy Jeopardy and am amazed at the extent of knowledge the contestants have. My only complaint is Alex Trebeck's arrogance. "Of course, the answer was..." If it was that obvious, one of the contestants would have gotten it correct.
I would agree that "Hollywood Squares" and "Match Game" were 2 of the funniest game shows, for comedic value. ("My mother's driving is so bad, it makes me want to <BLANK>") By the way, my wife reminded me, wasn't Richard Dawson a celebrity panelist on "Match Game" as well??
PDY-- I totally agree, the gross kissing weirded me out also. How crazy is that, anyway? Can you picture Alex Trebek giving soft, prolonged kisses to his contestants on Jeopardy?!? Were the women contestants making appearances on Family Feud actually looking forward to that??
