Chief Reimondo, Sgt. Kelly Leaving, Sgt.Green to Stay

Chief Matthew Reimondo's lawyer says the early retirement offer Reimondo is taking is a win-win for the town and the chief.

Sgt. Michael Green and Matthew Reimondo have been at odds since the chief was let go, and then fought his way back into his job, more than two years ago.

Now, under a buyout offer from the town, the chief and his right-hand man, Garritt Kelly, are taking early retirement from the department they've served for more than 20 years each and Green will remain. Green, who ran the department for several months in 2010 when Reimondo was laid off by a former town manager, did not take a buyout that was offered by the Town Council this past week.

For Reimondo, who was overwhelmingly voted back into his job by residents at a referendum in the fall of 2010, the buyout was a win-win for him and the town, his lawyer told the Hartford Courant.
