East Hampton Woman Netted in Middletown Heroin Busts

The arrests are part of a broader effort by police to crack down on drug dealers and stem a rising tide of heroin deaths here.

As part of a crackdown on drug dealing in the area, Middletown police recently arrested three area men and one woman from East Hampton, on charges of dealing heroin in Middletown.

The Middletown Police Department Street Crime Unit has increased its enforcement efforts of heroin traffickers recently in response to several overdose deaths in the past year. The heroin has been originating in Hartford and is being trafficked to Middletown by way of drug dealers.

On Friday, March 1, narcotic detectives arrested Gino Rizzo, 18, of Middletown and Alexa Jerjies, 18, of East Hampton. Police said the pair had 100 bags of heroin in their possession, drugs they had purchased in Hartford and were going to sell in Middletown. Rizzo’s phone was seized and continuously rang and received text messages from heroin addicts asking to buy heroin from Rizzo. His bond was set at $30,000 and Jerjies’ was set at $20,000.

On Sunday March 3, 2013 the state’s Bail Commissioner released both Rizzo and Jerjies from police custody on a promise to appear in court. The narcotic unit continues to receive complaints from concerned citizens stating that Rizzo is once again selling heroin and endangering lives.
