East Hampton Police Interrupt Burglary

Suspects arrested after breaking into Classic Auto.

 

East Hampton Police arrested two suspects early Monday morning after interrupting a burglary in progress at Classic Auto on Route 66.

Responding to call about suspicious activity at the business around 2:20 a.m., Officer Jason Wishart and Officer David Gionfriddo arrived and discovered a burglary in progress. The officers ultimately apprehended two suspects as they were fleeing the rear of the building.

The suspects were identified as Donald Powell, 43, of Hartford and Katelyn Cook, 19, of East Hampton. According to police, the suspects were in the process of stealing tools and cash.

Powell was charged with third-degree burglary, second-degree larceny and second-degree conspiracy to commit larceny. Cook was charged with third-degree burglary, second-degree conspiracy to committ larceny, possession of Marijuana less than four ounces and misrepresentation of substance as controlled substance.

Cook and Powell have unrelated charges pending at Superior Court.
