East Hampton Sergeant Placed on Leave

Sgt. Michael Green was one of the defendants in a lawsuit brought by the police chief.

East Hampton’s police chief has placed one of his sergeants on paid administrative leave while the department conducts an investigation of the sergaent.

Sgt. Michael Green was placed on leave July 27, Chief Matthew Reimondo said today. Green, who has been with the department for 23 years, earns a base salary of $73,000 annually.

Reimondo said the ongoing investigation involves a personnel issue that he could not discuss publicly.

“I’m hopeful it will be completed shortly,” he said.

The department’s investigation into Green comes on the heels of a settlement of a lawsuit Reimondo had brought against the town, and which named Green as a defendant. Reimondo sued the town after he was abuptly laid off in 2010 by the Town Council and Green was promoted to lieutenant to oversee the department. Reimondo was reinstated to his job following overwhelming voter approval at a referendum last year.
