East Hampton to Announce New Police Chief on Thursday

A search for the new chief has been underway for months.

The town has selected a new police chief and will announce the hiring Thursday morning at 8:15 a.m.

Town Manager Michael Maniscalco today said he will make the announcement then on who will replace Interim Chief Matthew Reimondo. The town undertook a search for a new chief after Reimondo, in January, accepted an early retirement offer from the town. The move came after several years of controversy involving the chief that included an effort to eliminated his job.

While Reimondo will be leaving, the town will still be mired in a lawsuit involving him. A former town councilor last month filed a federal lawsuit against the town, Reimondo and a former police sergeant alleging that they sought retribution against her for supporting the elimination of the chief's job.
