Fire Destroys Portland Home

Candle thought to be the cause.

An early Tuesday morning fire in Portland destroyed a home, displacing a family of five.

The fire started around 2:30 a.m. The family, including three children, was able to get out without injury. However, two dogs are believed to have died.

The home on Wilcox Hill Road had been without power because of Hurricane Irene. The cause of the blaze is believed to be a burning candle.
