Green Back to Work

East Hampton police sergeant returns after controversial paid leave.

Sgt. Michael Green was welcomed back to work Thursday morning by a gathering of about two dozen well-wishers.

Green had been out on paid administrative leave since July 27 pending the outcome of Internal Affairs investigations. The issue became a source of controversy in East Hampton, resulting in a petition signed by 10 of 13 officers in the department supporting Green and his reinstatement. The town council also questioned the money being spent on Green while he was on paid leave, the overtime needed to replace him and the length of time it took to conclude the invesigations.
